We are now building on this success by creating Numberjacks: Mission to Learn - an internet-based resource that is a unique and powerful combination of interactive educational activities, games and highly-motivating, award-winning television programmes.

In Mission to Learn, the child becomes a Numberjacks agent and develop their mathematical skills and understanding by playing a wide range of highly-motivating games and activities that target specific areas of mathematical thinking.  As the Agent improves their skills, they are invited to take part in Missions, where they become part of the action of a Numberjacks programme. An exceptionally rich mix of games, video, audio, images and follow-up activities motivates children to learn, whilst hugely enjoying themselves. Mission to Learn is a great way for family, teachers and other carers to interact with children and help them to enjoy and succeed in maths.

The games, activities and lots of missions cover all the key mathematical and problem-solving skills that children will need in their first years in school, including recognising numbers, counting, calculation, shapes, position and direction, and also measuring, data handling, and patterns, as well as key general skills such as observation, listening, talking, recording, predicting, hypothesising, checking, imagining, being creative and having fun.

We passionately believe that children learn best when they are motivated, engaged, and enjoying themselves. Learning maths need not and never should be a chore – Numberjacks: Mission to Learn will help children love and feel confident about maths from an early age.

A good experience of maths at an early age can benefit them throughout their life.  In the UK, the National Centre for Excellence in the Teaching of Mathematics reports that 17 million British adults, almost one in three, have difficulty with numbers. Research at London University’s Institute of Education has shown that the two most important influences on how well children will do in mathematics by the time they reach age 10 are, how well parents help their pre-school child to learn at home, and their mother’s level of education.

Statistics compiled by the Sutton Trust in the United Kingdom have found that 43% of school children in London have received private tuition at one time or another, at a cost ranging from around £15 per hour to over £40 per hour.  Meanwhile, Kings College at the University of London report that an A-level (Advanced Level) in maths adds 10% to an adult’s average salary.

Numberjacks: Mission to Learn meets the challenge of helping children to engage with and enjoy maths from an early age – to prepare for school, to get off to a great start in school or to help children who are beginning to struggle in school. Mission to Learn could make all the difference to your child’s chances of success in mathematics: in their first years of school, for the rest of their education, and even for the rest of their lives.  Mathematics is for life - help make your child’s life a happy and successful one.
